Essential Guides
You shouldn’t have to hunt through confusing government websites, or wonder whether the page you’re reading is still current.
Everything linked below is real and written. This page used to advertise guides
under /essential-guides/… that had never been created — every one was a dead link,
and the same topics were listed twice with conflicting slugs. Those have been replaced
with the guides that actually exist, organised by the situation you are in.
Start here: which system applies to you?
Most people apply to the wrong program first and lose weeks to it. Two minutes here saves a month.
It routes by situation — workplace injury, service injury, or neither — to the programs you might actually qualify for.

⚠️ A note on currency — and on what this page used to claim
Programs change. Benefit amounts, thresholds and appeal deadlines shift, often annually. Every page shows its own Last Updated date.
Always confirm a figure against the official page before relying on it. Where a rule changes frequently, we say so on the page rather than pretending otherwise.
This page previously stated that guides were reviewed monthly, quarterly, and “real-time.” No such review process existed. Those claims were untrue and have been removed rather than left standing. Reviews happen when they happen, and each page now carries a date so you can judge for yourself.
This is legal information, not legal advice. For anything contested or time-sensitive, get representation.
Something missing, or a page that’s out of date? Tell us — a broken or stale guide here is our problem to fix, not yours to work around.
