--- layout: default permalink: /research.html title: Research - Data Analysis & Tribunal Decision Database description: Evidence-based research, guides, knowledge bases and templates for injured workers, veterans, seniors, caregivers, persons with disabilities, and the human-rights / UNCRPD / legal communities β built from real tribunal decision data. ---
People win appeals when they understand what's required and have the right evidence. Recurring denial patterns and language appear across cases. We turned four years of tribunal data into tools you can use right now β for injured workers, persons with disabilities, and anyone navigating these systems. Ontario v3.0 complete May 15, 2026: 50,161 cases, 85.1% classified.
π‘ How these numbers relate: The corpus holds 230,392 records β split into 127,600 Ontario tribunal decisions and 102,792 employer/workplace records (raw, pre-dedupe; verified extraction manifest). The 127,600 breaks down as: WSIAT 98,992 Β· HRTO 9,269 Β· ONSBT 13,798 Β· ONWSIB 463 Β· ONCA 5,034 (extraction-manifest counts). Two scope notes so the numbers can't be mis-added: (1) WSIAT 98,992 is the count this total is built on; the re-verified WSIAT Open Data count is 98,992 (2026-04-29 parse) and 96,025 live (2026-10-07). (2) HRTO 9,269 are decisions individually classified (2020β2026); HRTO's full application corpus is 62,093 (INFERRED aggregate, 2016β2025) β a different scope, not part of this 127,600 sum. Separately, our v3.0 classification pass has tagged 50,161 cases by issue type (85.1% of that tagging complete) β the portion powering the guides and tools today; classification is ongoing.
Data Transparency: Proven data clearly labelled | Inferred patterns disclosed upfront | Win rates are estimated from classified decisions only (91.8% of WSIAT decisions lack clear outcome metadata) | All code and data open source See full methodology
π Accuracy Audit β 2026-07-20 (post laptop-failure recovery): Figures on this page were reviewed against the recovered Ontario scrape. The headline 230,392 = 127,600 tribunal decisions + 102,792 employer records (raw, pre-dedupe; the Ontario tribunal figure is itself the sum of WSIAT 98,992 + HRTO 9,269 + ONSBT 13,798 + ONWSIB 463 + ONCA 5,034). Outcome classification covers only ~12β15% of tribunal decisions (CanLII API lacks structured outcome labels β outcomes are keyword-inferred). BC WCAT collection was recovered and committed (7,386 decisions, 2020β2026) β verifiable; outcomes remain keyword-inferred. Cross-post success-rate figures should be treated as exploratory, not definitive. Per-tribunal counts: WSIAT 98,992 (re-verified Open Data) Β· HRTO 62,093 applications (INFERRED aggregate, 2016–2025; distinct from the 9,269 HRTO decisions classified in the 127,600 sum) Β· ONSBT 13,798 Β· ONCA 5,034.
